ORLANDO, Fla. -- According to ESPN's Mike Wallace, NBA Detroit Piston's basketball prodigy Andre Drummond is set for a breakout season.
At 19 Drummond was the youngest player in the NBA this past season. And although he turns 20 next month he was still the youngest player in the NBA Summer League in Orlando, Florida.
In the first game of NBA Summer League the Detroit Pistons beat the Brooklyn Nets 76-67, and, as expected, Drummond stole the show with a statline of 12 points, 16 rebounds, 6 blocks and 5 steals, in just 25 minutes of play.
At 6-foot-11, 280-pound Drummond is massive, strong and mobile. The skillset needed to become a dominant center in the NBA. He showed promising and productive moments during his rookie season, and still has a lot of room to grow.
He was one of the most efficient players in the league last season averaging 7.9 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 20.7 minutes as a rookie, despite missing 22 games with a midseason back injury that affected his conditioning.
The Pistons need Drummond to develop quickly if they are to become a factor in the NBA's Eastern Conference. Drummond's skill set and potential suggest he is headed for a breakout season, if he continues to take advantage of every opportunity to work at expanding game.
