Jamaicans are the largest foreign born immigrant group in Connecticut

According to the New Haven Register, Jamaicans are now the largest group of immigrants in Connecticut based on a count of 2010 data by the Pew Research Center’s Fact Tank counts countries of birth, not ethnicity.

While immigrants are only 8 percent of the Connecticut population, Jamaicans are the largest group of immigrants with 36,000, followed by about 30,000 Indians, then Poland with about 28,500; Mexico was fourth with about 24,700.

Greater Hartford is the center of Jamaican culture in Connecticut with 17,874 Jamaican immigrants, Bridgeport down to Norwalk is next with 10,355, and there are 5,347 Jamaican immigrant  in the New Haven-Milford metro area.
