Jamaica has decriminalized the personal use and possession of small amounts of marijuana.
Jamaica's parliament legalized the possession of up to 2oz (57g) of marijuana Tuesday night.
Jamaica and the Rastafarian faith have long been associated with Marijuana. And Jamaica is regarded as the biggest Caribbean exporter of marijuana, AKA ganja and cannabis, to the US.
The action taken by the Jamaican parliament is part of an increasing global trend.
Several states in the United States have decriminalized marijuana.
In Latin America, Uruguay became the first country in the world to approve the growth, sale and distribution of marijuana, last year. And Mexico, Colombia and Argentina have decriminalized the possession of small amounts of marijuana. In Guatemala, President Otto Perez Molina is pushing for the legalization of marijuana.
Chile and Costa Rica are also considering decriminalization.
